Oh, everyone loved David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook. Largely I guess there because are so few even vaguely interesting movies coming out of Hollywood at this point. The film is OK, I guess. The story is pure Hollywood schlock with a patina of mental illness that I guess is supposed to cover up the uninteresting parts of it. Jennifer Lawrence is hot. She has a story about having sex with other women that excites Bradley Cooper. The story going the other way around, now that’d be interesting. But of course not because the fellas would be grossed out instead of turned on and then wouldn’t pay their ticket money. It’s always the woman who is bi-curious. There’s a black friend to give key life advice. Never seen that before. An Indian doctor to provide diversity. Robert DeNiro almost trying for the first time in 15 years, but not really. A basic Hollywood love story plot. And that’s about it. Sure Jennifer Lawrence is pretty good in it. And I guess the rest of the cast is fine. But whatever. Not bad. But utterly forgettable.

In which movie was DeNiro trying 15 years ago? Heat?

Nope, that was 18 years ago …

oh, just realized you probably didn’t have in mind any specific film?

Well, Heat is about the last useful thing he did, although I didn’t specifically have it in mind.
